Nursing facility holds prom for residents Local News

Staff at Signature HealthCARE in hosted a prom night for residents, provided dancing, food and fun for all. Administrator Rachael Burchett says it’s a special night for some very special people. “It’s a night that they can just let loose, enjoy, and be young again. MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A 101-years-young Miami woman is getting a second chance at reliving her youth joining dozens of her peers for a prom dance. A group of seniors in Powell County are rolling into prom in style. Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been hosting senior prom for its residents for the past four years. Email notifications are only sent once a day, and only if there are new matching items.

Student government leaders from TERRA High School are setting up the dance for about 75 seniors at the Palace Nursing & Rehab. Nursing home staff will vote for a prom king and queen during Thursday's prom. Resident Sadie Gilbert, 86, says she was never invited to her high school prom but will now get the chance to attend.

“I hope they’ll have another one and I’m pretty sure they’ll enjoy it,” she said. Vansyckel is hopeful the event can be offered again. Seeing everyone enjoy the prom made her feel great. Ernest Simcoe and Donna Schrank enjoyed themselves at Signature HealthCARE’s prom Dec. 2.

She said a fundraiser was conducted for the prom and raised approximately $1,400, which helped make it a memorable night for residents. She said the facility on Rogersville Road in Radcliff has 102 residents, and counting friends and family, the prom had more than 120 in attendance.
